Clutch’s Corner – Random Shiznit

It’s finally winter here in the Northeast; can’t you feel the semi-frost on the nose when the temps dip to the 30s? It’s also NFL Playoff weather too. Overall the best teams made the playoffs and it’s been a great couple of weekend matchups. But one thing that’s been eating away at me (somewhat forcing me to blog about it) has been this “Tebow-maina” that has run rampant throughout this country. For those living under a rock or don’t care about sports, Tim Tebow, all world “QB” from the University of Florida, drafted by the Denver Broncos, got his chance to start mid-season. Since then, he had a few great comebacks that lead his team to victory. That isn’t the part that irritates me. It’s the additional stuff regarding religion that had been attached to him and his streak. Folks, while I was baptized a Catholic (please, keep your priest/kid touching jokes to the side, it’s not like you’re beating a dead horse with that – why don’t you be brave and knock the Muslim religion and see how “easy” it is..) I can tell you that God, or Jesus or anyone else up there isn’t a Broncos fan, far from being a Tebow fan, hell – try not even being a fan of sports in general. To those who really, truly believe that there’s some sort of divine intervention playing part in what was Tebow’s winning streak, stop kidding your selves. Look at the world around you- unemployment and fiscally irresponsible government seem to be gripping at least the US, around the world, I’m sure there’s poverty run amuck along with everything else, religious persecution .. and God and Jesus (we’ll throw in Mother Mary too – who else is gonna make the dip and cookies) are gonna plop in front of their uber-inch TV and watch a football team beat the snot out of someone else, and crack wise about this Tebow fella being the second coming .. riiiight. Keep smoking that cush that Snoop Dogg is rapping about. Don’t you think it’s called a “hot streak” and there are a few teams who enter this realm every season. Just because he prays and is a feel good story, let’s not wrap religion around it. Religion should be kept between the four walls of your home and/or your place of worship.

Isn’t it odd, that it’s been six, that’s right SIX months since Clutch and Wiggle Radio were on the air? Well, fear not, we’re marking this “anniversary” with a new show (followed by another couple weeks off due to hockey obligations) and new projects for the Clutch and Wiggle Empire. We’re looking to add shows to our lineup (yes, that’s right – we’ve become our own radio “station”). We looking to add additional content to our web site and join forces with our friends who have stuck with us along the way, since we began this ride over three years ago. Along with that six month layoff, seems that old habits don’t die. People who crave attention seem to get that itch and attempt to remind everyone of how much of a prick people are. It amazes me that some people can’t let things go. Yes, shit stirrers are amongst us, but come on, really? You’re fighting an uphill battle and losing. Put a foot down, make shit private and go your own way, blaze your own trail – don’t use the past as a crutch to rustle up feathers to create a buzz about yourself again .. #DiaperWars

There really has been a lull when it comes to social networking recently. With the option on Facebook to unsubscribe from people without having to unfriend them, it makes your every changing timeline (thank you FB developers in your ever-attempting ways to confuse people) with all these picture updates and stupid AOL forward-like posts declutter your timeline, but also, make you realize no one else is posting anything interesting or anything at all! With Twitter, the buddy list of the future has blown up by leaps and bounds. It’s a great way to support things and share amongst like-minded individuals. It helps build a community and changes your mind when it comes to ramping up new ideas (or old ideas to a new audience). Out with the old, in with the new, keeping the diehards is always a challenge. You lose what you had, hope for the best and pray that the new “breed” takes a liking to your offerings. As I’ve tweeted and facebooked about, 2012 hopes to bring in new and exciting things. Because, in the end – let’s face it .. its only a year to year “contract” and if shit fails, don’t renew !

Clutch’s Corner – Is It Really Christmas Time?

It’s funny, when you look at the calendar you see this weekend being December 24th and 25th. You look around your neighborhood and you see houses dressed with multi colored lights, windows full of fake frost and sliver of images of spruce tree’s with ornaments hanging with care – also some homes with chimney’s smoking, but that could be because of the colder weather (on days when it’s actually cold). All these items would tend to make you think that it’s Christmas time.

This discussion can really branch off into many themes, one being is it really CHRISTmas, how do you celebrate XMas or something else. The more and more I think about it, the “Happy Holidays” phrase should be used more. Not because it’s “politically correct” but because how many people who celebrate the exchange of gifts on December 25th, as the birth of the Catholic religion’s savior. I’ll admit it, I was brought up as Catholic (and still am, to a point and here’s why) and went to school till 8th grade. I went to church every Sunday and holidays. I went from that, to what my Dad did, Christmas and Easter. I’ve downgraded from that to basically nothing. Do I still believe in all of it, yes to a point, like everyone else, I have questions and things don’t make “sense” but I’m not denouncing the religion.

Many people across the multiple social networks I belong too, have also posted that it’s Happy Holiday$$$$ and all that. To a point it’s true. Many people don’t celebrate what the real, true meaning of this holiday is. It’s like Valentines Day, it’s become a Hallmark Holiday, trying to find that perfect gift for this person or that person. This year, for some reason, I haven’t really been in the spirit either. Not a few hours before posting this blog, I took my grandmother to the cemetery to place candles and add a few more Christmas-colored flowers to my parents and grandfather’s grave site. That feeling alone, how can one celebrate this holiday, even down to the real meaning. Sometimes you feel that you just go through the emotions, put on a smile and eat food and exchange presents. I’m sure a lot of folks don’t even “dress up” for the holiday either. I received a Christmas card today, there the family was all dressed up and the one daughter looks like a reject from that 80s band “Flock of Seagulls”. Jokingly, some people use the term of picture ruiner when a child who’s disabled is apart of the photo, well I saw this picture and thought the same – with the exception that this girl is “normal”. It’s a Christmas photo with your family, couldn’t look nicer? Couldn’t have tamed that flock hair do?

There are some who don’t “celebrate” the holiday, other’s who have lost what it feels like to have this celebration and then there are others who just go with the flow. I think I’m two of the three this year, maybe it’s because not my whole family is around to celebrate or it could be the fact that a few days ago, in December, it was sixty degrees outside. Maybe it’s both. So tonight, as I celebrate Christmas Eve with my family, eat my soup, fish, polish meats, exchange gifts and have cookies and coffee, I’m sure I won’t be thinking about the birth of Jesus Christ, or wanting to get home asap to watch Christmas Eve mass from Rome .. I’ll be worrying about how much weight I’ve loss feeling like I’ve been in an oven (my aunt’s house becomes hot as a mofo with all the cooking that’s done) or how much food I’ve ingested to a point where a finger down the gullet wouldn’t even help .. so here’s to you and your’s, have a Happy Holiday / Merry Christmas / Gift Exchange Extravaganza / Drink Fest .. have a shot for me and make sure there’s a PS3 under my tree – make sure it’s from “Santa” too .. Don’t forget to leave reindeer footprints in the lawn too, won’t be able to see it though – there’s no snow out there!

Clutch’s Corner – Technology That Makes You Go .. Hmmmm

Isn’t it a bit funny to think that five to ten years ago, people were using a computer program to get online called AOL ? People used to send out e-mail’s in general, or those chain letters – you know, the ones where if you didn’t sent to 15 people in the next 5 minutes bad things were going to happen to you, or money was going to come your way? How’d that work out for you, by the way? Heck, even in that previous time, new technologies that involved certain satellite radio shows came about that opened a lot of people up to meeting / talking with folks they never knew existed, hell, even marriages came from it.

Fast forward to today and everyone simply has moved onto social networking. You have your Goggle +, Facebook, Twitter, Yelp and any other site where you can voice your opinion and either see your friend count sore high, or plummet to the ground and cause an angry, ego deflating reaction. You can even throw in the likes of blogging programs like Blogger and WordPress where people instantly become that “man on the street” bringing you the op-ed pieces that were once posted in your local newspaper (even those have gone by the way side, except for the computer illiterate ).

We’ve all moved on, in some form or another, from the alternative to heading out to the bar on a nightly basis, to instant messaging programs, to social media web sites. In each step’s we’ve built up, what we feel is a good collection of people, only to be fooled into drama-based tirades and loss of trust in human beings. With that, only to move onto the next “fad” and rebuilt that sense of good feelings, “knowing” it won’t happen again. You introduce yourself to new people, new ideas, new features and the same old drama. The instant messenger has been replaced my Twitter, where you can follow or unfollow anyone you wish, and send them a message at any time – this time there’s no need for that pesky yellow post-it note of an away message that was strategically used to avoid people, now you just don’t tweet back!

Finding new people and getting to know the little things that they let out through social media sites (if you have Facebook and Twitter, one is used for “personal” use and the other (Twitter) is used to show your uncontrolled sociopathic tendencies) is the new thing. You follow the people with same interests and the like, so it’s a good way to break out from that shyness you may have been holding in since you were old enough to shave (pubes or facial hair, doesn’t matter ..) Either way, the fact that technology usage from as close as 5 years ago has changed so drastically, sometimes it makes you wonder if it’s changed peoples opinion of the how’s, what’s and where’s in life – or it’s just a new technology to replace past drama .. that’s up to you to decide

I’m sorry, but like the title says, since when did giving to the less fortunate, especially during the holiday seasons, depend on what your sexual orientation is? I mean really?

I can understand if The Salvation Army took 99% of the money or items people decided to donate for themselves and gave those less fortunate nothing, but simply because someone who isn’t straight took something so personal, that this ends up being some sort of news story? I’m only 32 years of age, so pardon me if I don’t have enough knowledge on the subject, but since when did those who deem themselves gay, have “so much power” in this world? Why on EARTH do they feel they need to attempt to control something like this? It’s a holiday season, yanno, where your gay boyfriend or your box licking girlfriend buys you that awesome sweater or hipster looking hat for the holidays “because I saw it and thought of you”?? How do you have the gall to make this situation about YOU, the one who lives in a loft in the city and drinks Starbucks like it’s water and adds to the "gay stereotype” that’s out there. This is about those who are homeless (whether it’s through their own fault, loss of job or nature) and/or less fortunate where they are unable to afford nice things this year (if you’ve been under a rock, the economy sucks a bag of dick right about now).

Simply because the Salvation Army doesn’t contribute to one faction in society, you take it upon yourself to raise a stink about it? I’m pretty sure that there’s more to the story that they failed to research or know about and don’t want to say it because it makes their own point moot – but, like I mentioned before, when did “you” get the power to attempt to control who gives to who? The fact that people who have little TO GIVE, give something and because it doesn’t fit your sexual orientation, you want everyone to boycott them. Embarrassment is what comes to mind. Way to make the holiday season all about YOU. Instead of buying that cup of coffee, who don’t you dump that money into that Salvation Army tin so it helps someone that needs it – because it shouldn’t matter if your gay, straight, male, female, etc .. if you’re in need of assistance, you ask people for help. It seems that YOU AS A GROUP are making this out to be something that is selfish, rather than helpful. Back when you’re parents were growing up, or hell, back in the “early days” I don’t recall there being so much bullshit towards gay and lesbians. A few idiots spoil the rest and create a stereotype by which you still haven’t been able to crack (also see every black joke, Chinese joke, polish joke, Jewish joke, on and on and on, you see where I’m going?).

Help those less fortunate .. as apposed to making this helping your “cause”. My lose change goes to help someone who needs it, I don’t care who they are – why do you?

Clutch’s Corner – Topical Issues From an Idiots Point of View

So with the recent events coming to a head, I felt I needed to write a blog about the entire goings on. It sure has been all over the map, hasn’t it? From this Occupy Wall Street fiasco, the horrible news coming to light from Penn State to the future of our country in these political debates, it’s amazing how this country hasn’t simply just stopped and yelled out “what the fuck?!?!” Believe me, I’m no expert in any of this, I’m just choosing to fill up some blog space and hopefully get another reader, subscriber or listener for that matter – and all the while, finally putting words to print (for which I’m slacking on due to the new job and the lack of wanting to blog).

So let’s start with this “Occupy Wall Street” business. I’ll do a quick internet search and find out what the essential description of this is. Okay, PERFECT, the “org” web site for these folks, let’s take a look at the “about” section, shall we? In the first couple paragraphs, it states the following:

We're an affinity group committed to doing technical support work for resistance movements. We're not a subcommittee of the NYCGA nor affiliated with Adbusters, anonymous or any other organization.

Occupy Wall Street is a people-powered movement that began on September 17, 2011 in Liberty Square in Manhattan’s Financial District, and has spread to over 100 cities in the United States and actions in over 1,500 cities globally. #ows is fighting back against the corrosive power of major banks and multinational corporations over the democratic process, and the role of Wall Street in creating an economic collapse that has caused the greatest recession in generations. The movement is inspired by popular uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia, and aims to expose how the richest 1% of people are writing the rules of an unfair global economy that is foreclosing on our future.

Alright – so now that I’m all ready to go and sleep in a park for more than two months .. wait .. TWO MONTHS? Yes, you read correctly. These folks decided that to protest people having money and screwing them over, they are going to pitch their tents in a park and basically shake their fists at Wall Street. Can someone explain how this is going to help get their point across? Through flipping channels and listening to certain satellite radio shows, I’ve heard different views on what’s going on. Here’s my idea, all those banks and corporations and everything else that you feel are screwing you, your future and your inability to get a job (I’ll get into that last topic shortly), you cross the street to get that Starbucks coffee or go to that ATM machine to pull out money for said over-priced cup of flavored coffee, did it not occur to you that those businesses were built on loans to get them started? So you feel the need to be mad at the banks because they get a handout (and spend it horribly, might I add – I’ll give them that) and you didn’t? You can’t find a job in this economy because…the guys on Wall Street are screwing you over? I spent a year and seven months out of work, due to my own choices of resigning. All that time, I didn’t camp out somewhere, roast marshmallows, sing kumbaya all day long and hope a job fell in my lap. No, I perused the want ads, job sites and did all these things, to where I was lucky enough to get a new job in the technology field. As I’m writing this, the folks over at #OWS (I’ll use the Twitter hash tag in hopes of getting more readers, I could give two shits about what you think – but please comment) are staging to “disrupt” New York City. Really? You complain about police officers beating the snot out of you (probably because you started to instigate, why else would a baton strike your ass anyway) and then you want to disrupt the City that never sleeps? REALLY? The whole two months you’ve been doing this (and mind you, NOTHING has changed has it..) the people you see on TV, on YouTube videos, etc are making you all out to look like fools. And now, you want to essentially riot in New York City in hopes of making a point? Here’s the point before you start, you’re idiots. Nothing has changed since you started, jokes on Facebook and Twitter have started and many have joined in. Many a poster are sick and tired of hearing about how you’re screwed over, yet still sucking off of mommy and daddy’s tit. How about this, take that job at McDonalds, work those holiday hours at WalMart or Target and start saving money like normal people do. How do you think I survived all that time, I had a savings/emergency account and depleted half of it. The only “negative” and draw dropping feeling was that I could live on that little money lol. But let’s get back to “serious”. I’m not knocking your right to protest, do it, you’re allowed too. Do it peacefully, don’t accuse people (read cops) of hitting you “for no reason” and all that. Realize that if it didn’t make a difference in month one, and nothing in month two, maybe it’s not going to work or you need to have a different approach. And please, for the love of all things holy, stop “raping” your own. To see that come about from your group and nothing really of substance of a defense to come of it, to me, simply makes you look work.

And since we’re on the oh so comfortable topic of sex you didn’t ask for, how about that former Penn State defensive coordinator, huh? First of all, anyone who THINKS that young kids, as an adult, are “attractive” in ANY WAY, SHAPE or FORM, need to be taken out to the road, and shot like a dog. For those living under a rock, Jerry Sandusky was a human being before the news broke. Why? Because no one knew, publically, about his disgusting acts of depriving kids of their somewhat normal future. He is alleged to have raped a 10 year old boy in the college football team’s shower. As a matter of fact, he has stated he shouldn’t have showered with those kids in a recent interview with Bob Costas. The essential admission of guilt right there, over a phone interview shocked me more, if you’re innocent, how is THAT innocence? Don’t blame it on stupidity. Calling your girlfriend the name of the chick you’re cheating on her with is stupid. Showering with children who aren’t your own, is plain disgusting. He is also accused of other disgusting acts of sexual deviance that it’s not worth typing as I might have to stop every once in a while to puke. Simply “Google” his name and read away.

A lot of the outcry seems to be centered around morality. I understand that, who else wouldn’t want to have crap like this out there. Everyone is obviously disgusted with Sandusky. A lot of people are flipping out that Joe Paterno didn’t do anything. Technically, he did what he was supposed to do, he alerted his higher ups about an accusations. Morally, could he, should he had done more? Yes, he said so himself. Everyone’s reaction is “Well, what if it was your kid?”. If it was MY kid, I’d go to the cops, because I, myself am not a university with rules and regulations. If you, at your company, were harassed, do you go straight to the cops, or do you notify your manager, or human resources department about it. Right, supervisor or HR and they handle it from there. Same situation here, Paterno went through his channels and THOSE channels dropped the ball. Another one who dropped the ball – wide receivers “coach” Mike McQueary. This man witnessed a rape occur in the bathroom and did nothing about it. News came out recently that he did. I doubt it, if he really did, word would have come out way earlier. So numbers one and two on my disgusting shit list are #1 Sandusky and #2 McQueary. Paterno should have been suspended the rest of the year, not made to act like he was to retire and then eight or whatever hours later fired. Yes, he could have been more proactive, he wasn’t and should be punished. Let’s face it – how much longer could and 80+ year old coach for. Time, the Grimm Reaper and health could catch up with him quicker. And as a side note, all you current students who rioted when Paterno got fired, look at yourself in the mirror and tell me you weren’t doing it for the 10 minutes of fame .. idiots.

And speaking of idiots (nice segway, right!), in my old home town, there was an incident recently where a group of varsity football players allegedly beat down a couple of town rival football players. It essentially became local/national news. Why? After the news broke, there was a playoff game to be held and these kids, who were arrested, were allowed to play. Read below about what the superintendant wrote…

Interim superintendent Michael Roth issued the following statement at 3:01 p.m. today:
Wayne is a wonderful community and provides its children with an excellent school system – a system that helps students reach their academic potential and build positive social development.
There is considerable attention being given to a serious situation involving students who attend the Wayne Public Schools and what should be the appropriate action for a school system to take.
On the evening of October 29, 2011, it was reported to the police that there was a social gathering at a private home and that during that evening an assault took place resulting in injuries to students. The Wayne Police Department began an investigation. The incident is a continuing criminal investigation by the Wayne Police Department. A police investigation takes precedence and a school system is not to do anything to interfere with their investigation.
On Wednesday, November 9th, just prior to the four day weekend when schools were closed for the New Jersey Teachers’ Convention, the district was notified by the Police Department that a specific number of Wayne Hills High School students would be charged with third degree aggravated assault.
After reviewing the New Jersey Administrative Code, Board of Education policies/regulations and having little empirical data, an initial administrative decision was made not to move forward with a precipitous decision to remove students from their participation in any extra-curricular activities.
With legal advisement and knowledge of recent case law, coupled with a ruling of a previous Acting Commissioner of Education on the topic of extracurricular activities and student behaviors outside of school, as found in Legal Clips from the article, School district’s policy that allows officials to deny students participation in extracurricular activities based on off-campus conduct violates New Jersey law. \
“The acting New Jersey Commissioner of Education has ruled that a school district’s regulation that allows its board to bar a student from participating in extracurricular activities based on the student’s off-campus conduct exceeds the authority given to school districts under the state Administrative Code,”
the decision to allow the students to participate in extra-curricular activities on Friday, November 11th pending receipt of more information was made.
On Monday, November 14, 2011, schools reopened and the Administration had the opportunity to review and assess the matter with the advantage of having more school based information. In addition, on the morning of November 15, 2011 the Superintendent ascertained that the charges of third degree aggravated assault against the students continued to be sustained.
This information coupled with a thorough review of applicable Administrative Code and final review of all the facts known to the Superintendent, I have determined that the students charged by the police may not participate in any extracurricular activity including sports from this day to a time to be determined based on facts, information or legal decisions.
Students and their families have all rights provided by law related to this decision.

In hindsight, I think they are using the school break as an excuse. In my opinion, these kids should never have played, the head coach should have sat them out. Where does the line come from in High School, when you’re trying to teach kids right and wrong and how to be held accountable for their actions. If you get arrested by the police, you have free reign on the football field? I played four years of baseball for this high school – if something like that happened, I would have supported the benching as a pre-caution. Maybe I’m old school, but if you end up arrested by the cops, “something” is up and that should trump high school football. I’ll keep my comments and feelings about the head football coach and the sport program for another day. I am apart of the high school Facebook group and to see people, minute after minute going back and forth about what’s right, what’s wrong and “innocent until proven guilty” and all that, but come on, stop being "passive” above what’s going on. All I keep reading about is “wait till the facts come out, then I’ll comment” .. really? So the cops will arrest high school kids for the hell of it? You’re all older than me and it seems you’re all protecting something close .. lets deal with the small facts, there was a party and high school kids, being high school kids, beat the snot out of each other and taking things out too far and you’re screaming about waiting for the legal system to take it’s time before you condemn the kids? At least one kid ended up in the hospital allegedly, cause he was knocked out cold. Right, a kid just randomly gets the shit kicked out of him to make a story sound better, right? Idiots.

And finally, I would have ended this blog on politics front .. but quite frankly, I don’t have a vast knowledge on the subject, but from a common sense point of view, I’m sure the winner of each party is going to depend on who screws up the least. It amazes me that political figures think that they are so high on the pedestal that they feel they can do dumb things, essentially in public, and think they can “get away” with it. Getting caught up in potential sexual cases, flubbing your own personal platform on national television and anything else, it scares me to think that this is the future. It will end up everyone picking the least painful choice and “grin and bare it.”

Clutch’s Corner – What Does It Mean to Work

It’s truly been amazing to realize that I’ve been working for close to three months now. Maybe it’s hack to say it, but boy does time fly. Prior to the end of July, I’d be sitting on my ass, waiting for something to happen. That something was either what’s the next house project to start, when’s that person going to call regarding those billion job ads I’ve applied to this week or what’s the next meal I’m going to eat since I have nothing planned and at the time, I didn’t want to do any show prep for the internet radio show. I didn’t know how I was going to adapt. It was a year and seven months since I had worked. How would I react to the hours? How would I react to the people? Would I miss not working once I started? Would I actually fit in? Would they have an coffee machine? That last comment, if you recall, came from a blog post a couple months ago about “habits'” I had picked up once unemployed to “pass the time”.

I had only known one way for quite a while. I mean, ten years and seven months is a LONG time to work for one company. The “rules and regulations” that I was accustomed too may not be there. I would be starting all over again, making my mark on a new support department, new people and a new commute each morning (going from 15 minutes to 45 minutes in the other direction). Well, I’m here to say that I’ve essentially passed all those tests with flying colors. I’ve fit in quite nicely with my co-workers. It’s a much smaller company that I’m accustomed too, but the wearing of many hats while doing my job routine hasn’t changed. I had received quite a few “at a boys” within the first couple of weeks of working there. From internal employees via email, word of mouth to end users and vendors, it’s been a great feeling to know the work you are doing is being appreciated (and yes, I’ve saved each one of them).

You might be saying, well, what’s the big deal, you do your work and you get some sort of recognition, you can get that anywhere. I agree with that, and what puzzled me is that the person I had replaced, didn’t seem to understand this concept. I recently went out for lunch with a couple of the longer tenured employees there and found out quite a number of “odd” things during this one hour, out of the office, “get to know you better” lunches. It was told to me that within my first afternoon on the job after I had been taking that random phone call, and answering a handful of emails, that I had surpassed the work of my predecessor by leaps and bounds. Now this kind of confused me. During the interview, I had asked why the position was being offered, was it department growth? Was it because someone had resigned, moved on, etc? Well, it was a quick answer of being that the position opened up because the original person was fired and the conversation quickly moved forward. At first it felt odd, typically in my interviews, if this was the case, the reason was given and examples of what they didn’t do was what I would essentially NEED to bring to the table to get the job. I found out what my predecessor didn’t do .. for the FOUR YEARS he was working here. It amazed me that what I was doing (level 1 support for a software company) wasn’t really being followed. Laziness, tardiness and just simply lack of “doing” was this individual’s downfall. Mind you, prior to this position, I worked doing level 1/level 2 product support work. Essentially, I knew how to work from “bell to bell” as it were (830a-5pm-ish). Customers hated this person and started to hate the support department because of it. In the few weeks I had been working there, the sales folks had noticed a change in our customers answers, they wanted to renew their contracts BECAUSE of support, instead of wanting to cancel their support contracts. It’s still hard to believe, but it’s because of me .. because of the way I “work” is the reason customers are staying .. to me that’s “odd”.

What’s “odd” about it? The rules are pretty simple here. Its a customer needs assistance, you open a trouble ticket and assist them. When the issues resolved, update the case and close it. Simple right? A few rules to live by when doing this job and my predecessor did nothing of the sort. So here I sit, the starting of my third month on the job, an Outlook folder called “Atta Boys” quickly taking form with email after email of “thank you’s” piling up. Many of these from end users stating that past experiences had spoiled their wanting to ask for support, but in a single exchange from presentation of issue, to questions, to resolutions, in a short time frame had changed their stance and they were happy to be working with me, knowing their concerns would be met with someone willing to help, not just someone sitting at a computer, who read the email and sat on their hands. I’m happy to say, I’m starting to be someone there, quicker than I had imagined. I’d say my job was “easy”, but I think that’s only because I know how to work, I know what it means to work hard and play hard. I’m proud to be apart of a growing company, I just hope that my tenor there is as great as my first six to seven years elsewhere .. and that the paychecks reflect that !

Clutch’s Corner - Hurricane Irene, You Turned NJ Upside Down and Brought Out A Few People’s True Colors

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from the recent aftermath of Hurricane Irene, from the folks in Northern New Jersey, is that there are WAY too many people who are dependent on the news to TELL YOU what to do. There doesn’t seem to be a will or need to do things yourself, you need to spoon fed to you. On Facebook, I “Liked” a local news organizations page and checked it frequently during the storm, and every once in a while after it. The types of posts that are placed have me shaking my head in disbelief. So many people are asking about open roadways, is this place or that town still flooded, etc. Aren’t there things like radio programs (like 1010 WINS) or picking up your cell phone and calling someone you know in that area? If you are posting something on Facebook, you obviously have internet access, use your search engine of choice to look these things up. Maybe even invest some time in reading more than two or three postings that fit on the screen for this news group.

A small issue I’ve had since the beginning was forecasting the storm when it was close to a week away. I’m no meteorologist (but with recent track record of most, it doesn’t seem that hard to become one when you can guess a forecast and your “excuse” is that it took a different path than you anticipated), but to essentially instill a fear into people that a hurricane is going to destroy your area, a week ahead of time, is not needed. Give simple facts and preface is by stating we will know more in a couple days. Simply leave it at that. They forecasted Hurricane Irene to slam into New Jersey as a Cat2 hurricane, with sustained winds of 100mph. Frightening to hear with that sentence alone, but the reality, is that it hit as barely a Cat1/Tropical Storm. Sure, it pounded Northern New Jersey with more rain in one day than this part would see in a week, but the winds weren’t as bad, but it still did damage. There are many towns around where I live that are essentially an ocean and evacuations are still occurring. These people are or have lost their homes. Memories are one thing, but losing a home you’ve lived in for years, you’ve built with your own blood, sweat and tears isn’t fun. Many around my town live within blocks of the Passaic River. With a possible 11inches of rain that could have fell, my first instinct would have been to head over to your local hardware store of choice, buy supplies to board up your house and move to higher ground. A few didn’t. I can tell you I honestly don’t have that much compassion for you, when faced with a natural disaster, and you chose to ride it out or say “oh it won’t be so bad”. You chose to stay and not board up your home. You lost your belongings, that choice was yours. If you own up to it, you’re a better person than most. A lot of people will attempt to milk insurance companies and Red Cross for everything that have because of their negligence. Those folks make my skin crawl.

I’ve read from other’s blogs about looting in their perspective towns and how the world has been turned upside down when faced with adversity. Couldn’t buy that candle and matches or get gas for a generator, so you had to go around town stealing someone else’s? What about ripping out air conditioning units from windows? Are you for real? It seems to me that people simply throw up their hands these days when faced with a crisis. It’s an instant “I’ve failed, I give up, nothing will work” mentality. It scares me. I’m in my early 30’s and assume I have many much more years to live (grammar aside) and at some point will have to come face to face with these types of people. It’s only a small percentage, but it makes the majority look worse. Ever hear of the phrase “10 atta boys are wiped away by one “you suck””? Many people need to toughen up, use what they have to their advantage. You’re on the internet, start searching for things to have your questions answered (granted not every single site (read Yahoo answers) is always 100% correct, maybe not even 10% correct, but the fact you tried puts you in the step in a right direction. Don’t waste people’s time with a “me, me, me” kind of question. You’re not the only one looking for answers, there’s probably about 10 others. Think and do outside the box and, at least to me, the world becomes a better place. Get those emergency kits ready ahead of time. Have a Plan A, B AND C. Work together with neighbors and people around you to obtain and distribute knowledge. Work as a team, not an individual and things get easier in the long run, with pain and agony in the short term.

There are tons of folks out there from utility personnel, disaster recovery teams to local everyday joe/jane’s out there who are helping. I applaud you and the work you do. I hope what you do is outshining those in the same area’s, who aren’t cutting the mustard. A side story, I heard that ConEd was stationed in a Holiday Inn in Parsippany, NJ. As the waters started to rise and engulf the hotel, ConEd reps seemed to have jumped ship, leaving people within the hotel, along with a single hotel receptionist, to fend for themselves. Amazing story, I can only hope that Karma helps you out down the road.

I guess the moral/venting answer for this story is, while it’s nice to depend on others for help, let’s not use that as your one and only avenue. It makes you look helpless.

Here’s to the next hurricane that comes out way feel the frustrations and angers that this last one did, gets scared of the New Jersey attitude and high tails it out to sea and leaves us alone. A few million middle fingers to mother nature isn’t a bad thing, right New Jersey? :)

Clutch’s Corner – Where The Best Thoughts Happen .. The Work Shitter

So here’s a question for you .. male or female, it doesn’t matter – but I’m sure men will respond better to this anyway .. so here it is .. Is it wrong to fall into your own little world while on the work shitter?

I’ll admit it, in previous jobs, I locked my computer, took my cell phone and walked to the bathroom, taken the handicap stall and simply “chilled out” for 15 to 20 minutes. I’m tending to do that with the new job as well. Last time, it was simply to get away from the stress and the lack of work everyone else was doing or to be REALLY honest, I simply didn’t want to work. Most people go out for a smoke break, or during lunch they put on walking shoes and make a few laps around the building, parking lot or park near by to relieve stress. For some reason, I don’t do that, I head for the work shitter and just check on Facebook and Twitter updates and the most recent Amazon Free App of the Day. I kind of fall into my own world for a time. You get away from everything happening “over there” and start thinking about other things going on. Maybe it’s that issue at the house that needs fixing, so you try to figure out a way to resolve it for the least about of work, time and money. Or, you just let your imagination run wild and literally get away from it all.

I’ve done a lot of all of those items, and probably then some. I won’t go into every story, cause then I’m sure I’m scheduling hourly sessions with someone in a white coat, glasses and scribbling notes in a notepad. It’s a “fun” place to be, to be honest – once you get past the realization that you’re hanging out in the bathroom, where we all know what goes on there. It’s pretty much a safe place to get away from work, what are they going to do, try and prove you were wasting time? Can they prove you didn’t HAVE to take that massive dump (or so you thought it was, turned out to be gas anyway)? Lots of ideas and “to do’s” come up while you’re sitting there, counting the minutes till that 10 or 15 minutes are up before you say “guess I really didn’t HAVE to go” (yanno, to prove to yourself you’re not wasting time).

But, the other question comes up .. how many times a day can you “get away” with doing this? Once, maybe twice .. maybe three times if you throw it out early enough that you had that “bad” mexican food last night and it hasn’t been sitting well with you since? And, when is it “right” to start doing this, after starting a new job? Is it slow at that new place? Is it just not working out? Or are you simply just using those 10 to 15 minutes to think of a resolution to a case you’ve just been assigned and want to make a big splash to impress the higher ups?

Lots of questions and answers to think about when you’re faking a shit, aren’t they?

Interesting title, isn’t it? So what spurned this blog topic, I’m sure is on your mind. Well it all starts back when I’m sitting in the pooper at work, probably doing what I do best, and I’m scrolling through recent Twitter postings of the people I follow. I came across one from @Samantha38G. Now if you’re asking me why I’m following this lady, if it means she realizes that someone in “radio” is following her, it might get the show an interview. So she mentioned she had posted a couple blogs on her web site. My first thought was, what in the hell does a porn star have to “blog” about. Now before I get into the guts of what she wrote, I think of a blog, like this one, where there’s substance, there’s a point, there’s something “interesting” to be mentioned. Now onto the next question I had, what on earth does a porn star have to say that’s interesting? Well, her first one was about Porn Star?. Now you can click on that link and read it. The first thing that comes out, is that I don’t consider it a blog, more like a blurb. So would you consider it blurbing? I hope I made a new word and get money for it! Second, she doesn’t consider herself a porn star. REALLY? You suck dick, you fuck dick, you allow for dick to spray your face and other body parts with a sticky substance, but don’t consider yourself a porn star? Then, what are you .. a master blurber?

And now onto a second blog she wrote for the day .. Crispy Cream or Dunkin Donuts. Again, a “lengthy” blog about nothing. Second, it’s Krispy Kreme. Spell it right if you’re going to blog about it. Which brings up another point, how about making sense when writing sentences and spelling things correctly. Way to have someone take you seriously.

Now, if you’re an adult film star, reading this and are taking offense to these musings, don’t worry – I’m sure you have an awesomely written blog that promotes your content and is proofread and posted professionally. It just seems to me that if you are going to put content out there for others to read, make it interesting. Also have a point, make it lengthy and for god sakes, don’t mask what you really are. It’s not debatable. Search your name online and most links that are returned have to do with smut!

Let’s hope that My Darkest Days (and Ludacris) .. or for that matter, Weird Al Yankovic, don’t think I’m either ripping them off or give them a means for a song parody – Weird Al, if you’re reading this, and you do use this as a song parody, call me .. we’ll talk numbers

Clutch’s Corner – WORK .. Alright!

As I coast into my third week at my new job, I often wonder if this is
what it feels like to be "happy" and have a "stress-less" job. For 10
years I worked for a software company. Not all of those years were the happiest for me. Obviously the first few were. And obviously, the last few weren't - hence why I was unemployed for a year and seven months. As I sit each day learning the nuances of the product I support, the people I work with and the environment or niche the company I work for tries to get a strangle hold on, I've come to realize that in each of my previous "real world jobs" (I don't count working as a cashier at A&P as a real-world job so to speak) they each had a link to the next. My first job right out of tech school (that lasted all but 7 months), I was relieved of my duties because being the "road guy" wasn't my thing - especially being a pup in the computer industry. It showed in my work how much I wasn't liking it and my final straw was a motherboard replacement that ended up going wrong, because a I didn't compare jumper settings from the old and new, cause the computer to lock up more than it had before.

Heading into my second job, I worked in the production department,
building up the servers for the companies clients. Well, wouldn't you
know, my main responsibility was to set jumper settings for the
hardware so that different IO addresses can be recognized by the
computer itself. see the symmetry here? I moved into doing software support due to some issues that the folks there saw between another production fella and myself. Reluctantly, I moved to the new position and began learning the ways of a support person (no, not like the ones you meet via phone or chat from Dell - where it's Habib reading a script-of-the-day that mentions his name is Frank). For about eight and a half years I did that. During the last three years, the offering changed a bit to where it offered web-based products. This actually interested me a lot considering I had been using email and "internet" things quite frequently. I wanted to learn more and by that, supporting more of the web-related features we were offering.

When it came time to leave this second company, I knew I wanted to stay in support, and be able to support anything. To me, supporting something is easy, you just need to learn about the offering and adjust to new support rules. Which lead me down a year and seven month trek to my current company ... Dealing with email and the internet is fun. Dealing with secure emails is even better. It's opened up a whole new world to me. It's two fold, it opened up a new support world to me and will also allow me to focus on more "help desk" related items - like working with MS Office more and supporting those features. Towards the end of my last job I
got that itch to do help desk support and get away from the
proprietary software support. Maybe it was the bad taste in my mouth that made me refocus my job hunt. Although it wasn't what I initially started looking for, I think I've found a happy medium .. a job for one and working with a new skill set that will help me in the future, where ever my career takes me.

Gone is the idea of working for the same company for 30 years like my father did, especially in the technology field (he worked as a
maintenance worker). My ideals have changed regarding the to do's at work and how to handle different situations. I'm more calm now than I was before. It's amazing what a time away from a bad situation does for one's mental and physical health. I think I've grown as a person, both at home and at work. It's evident to me, even after 2 and a half weeks, I've changed, hopefully for the better. I've learned to focus on the task at hand and not at the arbitrary things going around me. If I need to know that later on, fine - I'll learn it later. It's fun, new and exciting to meet new people, but you still miss the old ones. It's also funny that on day 1, I started comparing people here to there and seeing how close personalities were. I'm pretty spot on, considering I have over 10 years experience and have met a LOT of different people. I'm glad to be working and glad to have a different source from which to write. I wrote before to pass the time, I think now will be more focused on other things .. I'm just happy I'm collecting a paycheck again !!

Clutch’s Corner - Why Internet Radio is Better then Satellite Radio

Satellite radio, a thing of the future? Really? Commercial free music, really? Uncensored, REALLY?

I purchased XM Satellite Radio, “back in the day”, because of The Opie and Anthony Show. I started listening to them around the mid-way point of their WNEW stint in New York afternoon drive radio. I’ve been a regular listener, I’ve been a “sheep”, I’ve been a pest, I’ve been a potential canceller. I’ve been it all. I’ve recently become a “fed up” listener because I see what corporate is doing to this talented duo. When they started XM, there was so much potential for growth and for them to do the things they could never get away with on terrestrial radio. But the day the show changed, was with the merger between Sirius and XM. Sirius took over and shit happened.

If you’re a fan of O&A, you know what went down. For those that don’t, I think it all started when they were SUSPENDED from satellite radio for something that was said from a homeless person regarding a few high ranking political figures. It was essentially done because of any threat of the merger falling apart. So, let me get this straight, a PAID service, promoting itself as a “whatever goes” type brand, suspended radio hosts, like terrestrial radio would, for saying something “negative”. This was essentially, strike one.

Items that I’d constitute strike two, would be the way radio stations are being programmed. When under the XM flag, I loved hearing what I did on the 90s channel and the rock channels and the top 40 “pop” channels. When Sirius programming took over, musically, the platform “shit the bed”. Out went the decent music, in came the crappy ones. Now, I’m not the one people should come running too about musical tastes, but I liked what I heard before, hated what I hear now. I grew up in the 80s, but my musical listening peaked in the 90s. Whether it be the top 40 or the grunge/rock that came from the 90s, I’d love listening to it all over again and trying to “relive” my youth.

From music, back to talk. The “brains” behind the Virus channel, in their wisdom, thinks they know what good radio is. I personally don’t think they do. I do my own two radio shows (yes I’ll plug, Cheap Heat Show (wrestling related) Mondays 11p-Midnight and Clutch and Wiggle Radio Thursdays 8p-10p – both on EdgeFM.net) so I kind of know what good radio is, I try to get to that level at least twice a week. They first took continued to stop Opie and Anthony from doing the “Feels for Meals” bit. Next they ruined the “Homeless Shopping Spree” by taking out the “shock” factor of surprising a local (NY,NYC,NJ) mall by bringing homeless men (along with supplying them with cash to spend, along with the listeners if they wish) and allowing them to buy themselves what they feel they need, for Christmas (and if they want to waste it on booze, so be it). In their infinite wisdom, they want them to take wireless mic’s into Times Square and “do something” with it. Yeah, makes for great radio. Because of something that happened close to a year earlier, they no longer have interns working on the show, but they are “working on it” to get them back. Must be one hell of a item to get interns to work for a radio show, it’s taken months and nothing. Then, from on-air mentions alone, management is coming down on O and A because they continue to talk about Howard Stern, a man who is suing the company for stock-related items, yet still allowing his show (mostly replays in the summer) to continue to be aired. BUT, Opie and Anthony get in trouble for mentioning it on-air. Recently on FaceBook and Twitter, I kind of vented that the “suits” had censored the first portion of a show (first hour I believe) because of something “Howard” related. It was a knee jerk reaction, by listening to the remainder of the show and the “wrap up” show that follows, it seems like they weren’t in studio and went into an hour best of mode. It wasn’t because of saying something about Howard, but because someone went to get coffee, something that interns typically do, but Opie decided to go out and get it himself. By the way good for them for doing this to stick the “no intern” thing back in the face of management, for something stupid.

At this point, the new venture seems to be internet radio. There’s ton’s of stations out there that play music, like Clutch and Wiggle Radio’s affiliate 92x “Everything That Rocks” (A Live365 station, we are their morning show), GashouseRadio (when not playing talk, they play music) to stations that gear more towards talk radio like EdgeFM. Along with people like these, who are being their own programming director and finding bands or talk radio shows to fill out their timeslots, you have mobile applications like iTunes or Stitcher Radio or TuneIn Radio ( an app that plays FM stations through your mobile device, along with podcasts alike). There are so many options out there, why bother looking for something on satellite when you have it on the internet. Even your regular terrestrial radio stations are implementing commercial free hour(s) when playing music and setting up “throw back at noon” type bits where they play 80s only or 90s only music. It’s all out there, you just need to find it and make sure they are playing what you want to hear, it’s the internet after all!

I can say this .. when Opie and Anthony's contract ends with SiriusXM in a couple years, I hope they don't resign - I will be cancelling .. I can listen to uncensored internet radio podcasts and FM radio has more and more commercial free hours .. it's absurd that they censor O&A because they talked about Howard Stern - the man who is suing SiriusXM AND is still able to broadcast (replay or the rare live show in the summer) horse crap or because they don’t like the way things are being put on air. I’m paying for your service and your running it like something I can find for free in my car when driving, or listen too while surfing the internet in my underwear and “fuck u” t-shirt.

Clutch’s Corner – My Favorite Sports Announcers

In a recent Twitter conversation with two fans of Clutch and Wiggle Radio, Jason (@oandapartyrock) and David (@DeeHaytch), the topic of sports announcers came up, mostly for baseball. So with this topic being bandied about, I figured I would write a blog about my favorite sports announcers from my favorite teams. To refresh your minds as to which teams I root for every season, in football – Oakland Raiders, in baseball – New York Mets, in hockey – New Jersey Devils. So lets get started, shall we?

Oakland Raiders radio announcer – Greg Papa

.. now considering I live in NJ and do not get the Oakland Raiders on my local cable company offerings, I’m relegated to listening to them via online stream. Greg Papa is essentially the only voice I’ve known for the Raiders so this was an easy pick. The way he calls the games keeps me, being somewhat of an A-D-D mind, into the games and rooting even harder for the team to do well (which if you know football, they haven’t been so good the past few years, since their Super Bowl appearance against Tampa Bay).

New York Mets TV announcer Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez / Radio announcer team of Howie Rose,Wayne Hagen

.. The conversation via twitter that we had, I mentioned that I hated Tim MacCarver (when he teamed with Ralph Kiner and Steve Zabriski) for television. Ralph Kiner, the baseball stud he was, was ok and I liked Zabriski). I understand the history of the New York Mets broadcasters, with Kiner, Bob Murphy and Lindsey Nelson paved the way for today’s voices for the Mets (considering the radio booth is named after Murphy and the TV booth after Kiner – you would think they’d be higher on this list for me) but I prefer the more banter-filled broadcasts than strictly calling the game of baseball. The way that Cohen and Hernandez (on TV) and Rose ans Hagen (on radio) work together to bring you the game, it’s historical facts and some humorous banter, it makes listening and watching the game that much more enjoyable.

The topic of conversation swayed a little as well, as I had mentioned that the Atlanta Braves were my favorite second team to root for. The simple reason is because of their TV crew members of Don Sutton, Skip Caray and Joe Simpson. It’s a shame the Atlanta Braves are no longer broadcast on my cable platform, I miss hearing their voices call a baseball game!

Former New Jersey Devils TV announcer Mike “Doc” Emrick

.. I left this one for last, as it’s both a great announcer, but sad as well. Mike Emrick’s contract with MSG (the television station that broadcasts Devils games all season long) was up in the Spring and as of last week (week of July 18th) he stated he was leaving the Devils booth for a lesser schedule, to solely be the voice of NBC/Versus hockey. My favorite line, among many, was “"The championship to New Jersey. The Devils win the Stanley Cup"”. The Devils won the cup and to hear “Doc” say that, OUR announcer, put a huge smile on my face. In my opinion, Mike Emrick is the ONLY hockey announcer, everyone else is just garbage. No one does it better and it’s quite evident throughout the NHL, not just the Devils, that he is the man behind the microphone.

Clutch’s Corner – The Smell Of Change (and Fear) In The Air

It’s amazing what a year and seven months off from working can do to a person. For those who are unaware, I’ve accepted a job offer (as of 3 weeks ago) and will be starting my new job on July 25th. I had tendered my resignation with my previous employer, but never in my wildest dreams would I imagine that I would be unemployed for this long, honest. Maybe it’s tooting my own horn, but I figured I would be out of work a month for two, maybe three of four, depending on how long I needed to recharge my battery, decompress from the ten years and eight months of sweat, nerves and tears I poured into doing my job day in and day out. That “decompression” time took MUCH longer than I anticipated. Setting aside the death of my mother a few short months after resigning aside, those four months, I didn’t decompress at all. I still had anger issues towards my former employer. Stress is one thing, it’s another thing for me considering I take A LOT of things to heart. I take pride in the work I do, and when someone asks I give a certain percentage (typically 100%), I give more. I take pride in getting things right, doing things the right way, and expect to have the support behind me when I can’t. Needless to say, a lot of the stress and anger and bitterness I had stemmed from a lack of that.

As the hours turned into days, weeks and months and years, I was torn as to what to do. Dealing with my mothers death, then having to deal with the semi-hoarders house I inherited, then dealing with my grandmother’s health issues, I often thought about “when is this ever going to end and I can get MY life back in order”. Well, until recently I didn’t think that was possible. All the other situations mentioned before have set back into place, into a level of understanding and control. My attention then turned to full on job hunting mode. Ever walk into an empty home and say something, you hear that echo? Yeah, that’s what happened on the job front. Ten to fifteen resumes a day emailed out and the only noises my phone was making was from text messages, Facebook, Twitter and email updates I was receiving. Not one phone call from even a recruiter. So what’s a kid to do? Well, I started looking at technical schools to go to. I figured I was out of work over a year now, what’s another year? At least this time around I would take technical school a little bit more serious, considering I have experience under my belt. You might be asking why wouldn’t I take it serious before. Well, back then, I knew I wanted to get into computers and thought that there wasn’t too much too it. Boy was I wrong. After a month at the technical school I went too, I was in shock as to how much there was too know. Before I got a handle around it and started to progress forward, I was ending my 10 month courses and figured I could test for my certifications at the end. That’s when the school started to turn into a farce and I really lost interest in getting certified. Good thing they had job placement, cause after two months out from school, I had my first job. That one lasted six months before I was fired due to performance (I didn’t like the “road tech” feeling and it showed in my work – that one was on me, I’ll admit that now).

I had been through the school thing before, so I knew what I would be getting into. The worst sales pitches ever, lowering the standards of the school’s competition, stating theirs was the best! It’s somewhat hilarious, sitting there, telling the Admin about the other school’s I’ll be meeting with, them asking the names, me telling them and they say “Oh, I’ve never heard of them”. Thanks for lying to my face, considering one of the places, literally is right up the road from you, 5 minutes more is pushing it, with a big sign with the places name on it, on the same side of the highway as your school! Now, I’ll set aside the nice rack and back side you had, but you’re hair wasn’t blonde – at least with a good color job it wasn’t! In the end, all I should have asked on the phone is “how much” and “how long is the program”, because I don’t want to have to sit through your sing song approach at selling me your school. On a side note, after coming back from vacation, I had told this woman about calling me the first day back and I should have a decision about where I wanted to go, a gentleman calls and lets me know that the woman I spoke with, no longer works at the school and he was “picking up where she left off”. REALLY? This was actually the school I would have chose, as I told him, if not for the fact I accepted a job proposal and no longer needed to head to school.

Now, you might be asking, why not go to school at night. Selfish priorities. I’m a New Jersey Devils season ticket holder and I’m pretty sure night classes, three days a week, would interfere with my season tickets. That’s MY time, MY time to relax and unwind from a hectic day and give me something else to root for. My priorities are skewed for sure, but it’s one of the few things I have a strong passion for (besides blogging and internet talk radio).

So, a year and seven months pass by. When you’re left alone to think about where things were, where they are now and where they weren’t going (at that time), one can learn a lot about themselves in a very short period of time. Learning to deal with stressful situations and not letting things get bottled up is a major one. Maybe that’s because I have “decompressed” as I liked to have called it and am no longer under an umbrella of poorly managed support situations and personnel. Long had I waited to get back to that point where your manager AND corporate management actually appreciate you and RESPECT you. Three years of near hell and possible long term damage to my trust in humanity were tougher than one could imagine. I hit my breaking point and actually thought to myself that maybe being a martyr of some sort would change the way things were done. Yes, I was wrong. Nothing “back there” has changed in the time I’ve left. Do I feel for the few close friends, those “left behind”, yes, absolutely. They were the ones who helped me get through the rough times. Others, well, if you were on fire and the only way to put it out would be to piss on you, I would simply walk away, that my friends, is how much I don’t care about them, never will. You took something so awesome, shit on it but continue to support it, while throwing more bullshit on top. Good luck to ya, one of your BEST tech’s has moved on PERMANENTLY from your crumbling establishment. You have awesome, blue collar people working for you, yet you have blinders on. Good luck to ya!

With the stress gone, a sense of calm settled in, that leaves the door open for one things now, fear. Yes, fear is the answer. You thought of something different? Mr/Mrs Pete/Patty Positive you !! Fear settles in, for one, I haven’t done the “I’m the new guy” bit in over ten years. Gone is the familiarity of co-workers, knowing their quirks, knowing when NOT to talk to them because of a bad day, knowing just the right thing to say to get them smiling, or that simple perverted joke to break tension or stress that’s been floating around since you walked in, just to change the mindset, even for a minute or two. Fear settles in because, well, do I really have what it takes to be the person that new company saw in my resume? Was I simply just too comfortable at the old place and got used to the same shit day in, day out? Time will tell, new friendships will be made, new goals will be set, new goals will be shattered and remade. It’s an exciting time, albeit for a couple days weeks or months it’s something different, something challenging, something I haven’t done in a while. Trying to find out who you are, again, is going to be fun. Come the 25th, I’m kicking that new front door down, saying “Hi, my name is Rob and I’m here to blow this shit up and take names and return back to that “King of Useless Information” title I was given previously”. I’m the new guy, but you’re going to learn to love me in no time. Get ready, cause here I come workforce. Back with that swagger full of fear and arrogance, and after the first couple hours, my first trip to the shitter to claim what’s rightfully mine – the handicap stall to unload all the “nervousness” I had walking in .. taking a deep breath, and taking the next steps in my career in the world of computer technology !!

Clutch’s Corner – What The Hell Is Wrong With People Regarding Kids?

I’m not a parent yet (although like many other people, I play one in my head) so most of what might be said may not hold much weight or real world experience. Within the last, lets call it, two months we’ve seen, read, reacted, etc to two specific news stories in the “Casey Anthony Trial” and the “Leiby Kletzy” story. If you have been living under a rock, these two headliners involve a child’s gruesome, unnecessary death. Let me go into some further details below.

Let’s start with Casey Anthony. A young Florida mother states her young daughter is missing, yet only reports it to the police after 31 days. During the investigation, she lies to authorities about many things. She goes to trial and has her families dirty laundry air to millions who were glued to the TV watching her trial. Based on what people’s opinion is, Casey Anthony killed her daughter and covered it up. She was found not guilty of murdering her child, but guilty on many accounts for lying to authorities. She was found not guilty due to the prosecution unable to prove without a shadow of a doubt she murdered her child (there was no Casey Anthony DNA on duct tape or anything to prove she did it). Let’s leave the uproar aside for now about the verdict (that can be done in another story sometime down the road). She was painted as a loving mother who cared, for the most part, about her child. So why on earth would you do anything to harm your child? Are you not that mature enough to separate what happened to you as a young lady regarding family issues, to blaze your own trail and use that motto “I want for my kid what I never had growing up”? Are you not that mature enough to have gone through the time of being a new mother? I would think getting pregnant and having a living, breathing, human being grow inside you for nine months would change who you are. Many a friend, both online and in real life, have had the opportunity to have kids of their own. I’ve seen all their reactions through the nine months of growth and can see they are different people now, for the better too. They have grown up and now have the responsibility of taking care of their own. It may be a tad different when taking care of an elderly person, like your grandmother or mother like I’ve had to do the past few years, but in my head, I get what it takes to take care of someone. No, I haven’t changed diapers or needed to be up every couple hours for feeding or to check to ensure the child is breathing, but I know it will need to be done when that day comes that I become a father. So for someone to get pregnant, give birth and not change your “partying” ways, not to adjust your live to ensure that everything and more can be done for your child, to me is embarrassing. This is the first “What the hell is wrong with you?”. You, Casey Anthony, got off from a conviction of murder, the only two things left that will control your life, considering you yourself cannot do so, is karma and God. The way I see it, you’re 0/2 in that aspect. Enjoy the rest of your life with everyone you know and even those that don’t, see you in the streets somewhere and think “murderer”.

The second story has to do with a nine year old Jewish boy from Brooklyn. You might think, what’s wrong with that? Well, first, when a nine year old is murdered, it’s one thing. Here’s where the kicker comes in, the kid was murderer AND hacked up into pieces. Those pieces being feet and torso and wound up in a freezer. His murder was found and when asked where the kid is, he pointed to his own freezer, where police found the child’s remains. Seriously? What on earth would have you snap to a point where you feel the need to kill a child. And on top of that, you freak out and decide to hack him up because you get scared and realize what you did. Quite pathetic if you ask me. This is the second, and I’m sure you the reader, can point out more (comment below if you’d like) “What the hell is wrong with you?”.

See, these two stories alone made national news. Two people, the ones who essentially abused kids (one killed and the other not reported to the police for 31 days, and by verdict of your peers, saw you not guilty) have made a gaping hole even bigger from my vantage point. Most people need to get their heads examined. When thinking of wanting to have kids, here is a suggestion – think about who, among your friends, is similar to you and that have already gone through the trials and tribulations of having a child. Did it turn out well for them? Are they happy? Are they miserable? If they have changed, in your eyes, is that what YOU want to turn into? (I believe I’m giving a little bit if slack on that last statement). IF all those answers have you saying “I don’t want to be like that”, then do yourself a favor and swallow, have him pull our, or simply use a rubber. If you find that having a kid is a “bummer” in your life that no longer allows you the “fun” you used to have, you apparently are not mature enough to have one. IF you feel that your child will become more appreciated to your own parents, than you did as a kid, maybe there’s a reason for it, maybe people are seeing the mistakes made previously and are trying to correct them now. Jealously is a stinky cologne. You need to grow up and become an adult in order for one to consider having a child. But, to have one and a few years in essentially decide that parenthood isn’t for you – you’re a selfish piece of trash that should have everything coming to you regarding payback.

Now as for the gentleman who killed the young Jewish boy, then freaked and decided to chop him to bits, obviously there’s a screw loose in your brain. I’m sure there had been warning signs all around that you weren’t “right”. All this little boy did was ask you for assistance because he was lost. That’s all he did. At that point, whatever snapped inside you had been there for some time and you didn’t know how to deal with it, or simply didn’t care enough to do anything about it. You turned a neighborhood that has been said to be a non-violent area, into a untrustworthy area in New York.

In both cases, someone took the life of a child. Again, I ask – What the hell is wrong with you? As a society that is becoming more and more “politically correct” and lashing out at any little thing that seems “out of place”, you alone have turned the screw even tighter. All but gone is the trust human beings have in others. The few who still believe that there is at least one good person out there in the world, will now have to think twice. The downward spiral of society keeps going in the wrong direction. And for what, because you can’t “party like you used too” or because someone was a bit off and “today was the day” you wanted to lash out against a kid? Like I mentioned before, karma and God are your only two lifelines left, and I seriously doubt either of those two will have mercy on you, or give you a free pass on doing something so horrific to anyone, let alone a child.

Clutch’s Corner – Vacation Review – Aquarius Motel, Wildwood,NJ

Located at 4712 Ocean Ave, a hop, skip and jump away from America’s most FAMOUS boardwalk and convention center in Wildwood, NJ .. lies the Aquarius Motel – family owned and operated for more than 30 years.

I’ve been going to this place for several years now, after spending about five going to one no longer standing in Wildwood, the Rio Motel. I consider Wildwood,NJ to be my “home away from home” and consider it a great resort town to take family, kids or even a day trip. All rooms are “ocean front”. Being that it’s considered a block away from the beach and boardwalk, each room has an awesome view of the boardwalk, convention center, beach and ocean. I took a few pictures of them and will post them below:

The next picture comes from a view from the balcony of the room I stayed at this year, taken with my own camera – moments after an awesome storm rolled through the city of Wildwood ..

The staff and owners of the facility can be seen pretty much everywhere you turn. Between the helpful staff at the front desk to the onsite maintenance personnel (co-owner), they are all friendly and ready to help you out whenever needed. As a quick example, a family staying a few doors down were locked out of their room by their three year old. The little fella locked all the locks and was unable to reach them to let his family in. Within moments of it happening, the owners were onsite, ready to help out both the family get into their room and also to calm the three year old down as well, as you can imagine, he “did something wrong” and was quite scared being separated from his family in a strange place.

The pool, from the pictures you see above, is cleaned daily (by my accounts about an hour before it “officially” opens at 9am). Rooms are cleaned daily as well. The staff courteously knocks on the door each morning to ask if you would like the room cleaned at that time, or later on. The check in, like most motel room’s in Wildwood seem to be at 2pm and checkout is 11am. All together, there are 28 rooms spanning four floors. The second through fourth floor are all accessible via elevator or stair. The site is also handicap accessible as well.

Each room is considered an “efficiency” room, having a small kitchen area, microwave and mini-fridge. You can see in the picture below, it does still have that 50s/60s feel to it as what you would consider this town being built in.

I stayed the July 4th weekend through the following Saturday (6 nights, 7 days) and paid about $1100.00 for the week (this included the special you see for staying 5 consecutive nights). Comparing the same weekend with a Days Inn that is 2 blocks down, this was rather inexpensive considering the time of month I stayed here. For those “blown” away at the prices of $209 a night, please consider that this was for a July 4th Holiday Weekend. Also please keep in mind, that when visiting a vacation spot, the room’s are typically used for SLEEPING purposes, a place to keep your head dry if it rains. If you want to stay at a super hotel, you can try a condo or Days Inn or stay up the New Jersey Parkway about 30 miles in Atlantic City casino’s).

You can read many reviews online from sites like Yahoo and other traveler review web sites, and see “negative” reviews, but please keep in mind when these were posted. Back in 2006-2008, I will agree that the Aquarius Motel needed a MAJOR upgrade when it came to looks. Over the past two years, the family has done just that, re-facing the outside of the facility and making the motel look more modern. the have done a great job at keeping this motel alive, during a time when Wildwood has been tearing down the “old motels” and putting up condo’s everywhere (even the previously mentioned Rio Motel “sold out” and now all that is left is an empty lot, with a promise of a condo complex being built there – it’s been five plus years and nothing has been done by the way – hence my “sold out” comment).

The environment that Wildwood brings, in my opinion, cannot be beat and the fact I have been staying at the Aquarius for so many years (being a stickler for feeling comfortable and safe and “close to the action”) I really feel that the Aquarius Motel is a great place to take your family to stay for a few nights, or what I typically do, a week. With the local pool, grill, steps away from the beach and boardwalk, it’s an excellent place to stay and relax.

Clutch’s Corner – TV Show Review: A&E’s “Breakout Kings”

IT TAKES A CON TO CATCH A CON - Driven by the fact that there are few things more dangerous than a prisoner who has just escaped, and tired of following protocol and resorting to outdated methods of law enforcement, veteran U.S. Marshals Charlie Duchamp (Laz Alonso) and Ray Zancanelli (Domenick Lombardozzi) are taking an unorthodox approach to their work: using former fugitives (Jimmi Simpson, Malcolm Goodwin & Serinda Swan) to catch fugitives.

“Breakout Kings” follows U.S. Marshals Charlie Duchamp (Laz Alonso) and Ray Zancanelli (Domenick Lombardozzi) as they form a special task force composed of the three most elusive convicts Ray ever captured: Lloyd Lowery (Jimmi Simpson), a former child prodigy and behaviorist/psychiatric expert whoexcels in psychoanalysis; Shea Daniels (Malcolm Goodwin), an ex-gangbanger who knows how to work the system, both in prison and on the street; and Erica Reed (Serinda Swan), a sexy expert tracker who learned her trade from her bounty hunter father. Charlie and Ray also employ the services of Julianne Simms (Brooke Nevin), a civilian who acts as the “funnel” for the group – all information, tips and data go through her.

Every Monday night at 10pm EST, I’ve sat down and watched A&E’s Breakout Kings. The show itself is from the producers of former Fox show Prison Break. I’ll be honest, it took a couple weeks to “get to know” the characters, especially after they re-casted the role of Erica Reed. Now, when I say recast, there was one female who was in the pilot. The 3rd show in, for some reason, the chick changed and explained that she was sent back to prison because she lied or did something “against the rules” and was sent back. The premise is that the group of con’s is contracted every couple months to help US Marshalls in “breakout” cases, using their “expertise's” in essentially troubleshooting the cases. The script itself isn’t as deep as Prison Break, but the show has quite a number of possibilities. They even brought back T-Bag (Robert Knepper) in a weird case. This episode essentially got me hooked, because they were able to parallel both stories and cross promote on each show. It’s interesting to see how the con’s use their past to troubleshoot the cases (with the carrot being hung over their heads that for every case solved gets a month knocked off their prison sentence).

With the few positives I enjoy as part of the show, there are a few negatives. The characters seem to end up being a tad lovable and tend to get softer with each passing episode. It also seems that Charlie and Ray threaten that if they go slightly off key, they get sent back – but in each episode, they go past that leeway, so why aren’t they sent back? In watching all the prison show’s I do, it seems that word gets around quite well about what people have done and time being served, so how are they getting by, in their own prison’s, with doing this work? Essentially, it’s con’s working to find con’s, how realistic is that?

The final episode of season one, they all end up kicking back, eating what seems to be their traditional pizza and throwing back a few beers, so it seems like a “safe” season finale, in the event the show isn’t picked up. I’m hope that if the series is being picked up, they can develop the character’s a bit more, like they did on Prison Break. Show the back stories, give a whole episode, or half for the backgrounds of these con’s. It’s one thing to simply know what they did to become a con, but show their acting chops. I’ll put my chips in for this show, as long as it keeps progressing. Yes, show after show about con’s catching con’s might get old, but keep it fresh and have a great storyline for the breakout and “Breakout Kings” just might raise to the level of Prison Break in my opinion.

Clutch’s Corner – 100 Shows, Can You Believe It?

I mean really, can you believe it? If you’ve been with us from the beginning – and I’ll be honest, there’s been maybe less than 5 of you who have (allowing me to do this, and for you, Cuddy’s Big Rack, for putting up with it and not knowing where it’s going to do..a huge thank you) – you know that we’ve somewhat worked hard to get to this point. We’ve received numerous opinions, assistance, feedback (a lot negative, a majority positive) throughout the three years we have been putting out our podcast. I don’t care what anyone says, when you reach the 100th of SOMETHING, it’s an accomplishment. Through a lot of up’s and down’s, a lot of questioning if we’re “good enough” to continue to do this, to having to listen to the nay-sayers (especially the ones who consistently shit on you, and give the back handed “compliment” of “I was only joking”) we’ve came out on top. Fuck the negativity, we plowed through and got better despite all your attempts to keep our show, our fans and our content down. Maybe it’s a bit of jealousy because we grow each week, whether it’s download’s, listeners, feedback, etc. We started doing the show for “us” and quickly relished in the fact that people listen to our show and like what they hear. We turned our attention from doing it for “us” to doing it for “you”. What has started out as a hobby has turned into something more. Just what that “something” is, I think we’re still finding out.

Many, many thank you’s need to be thrown out there, so I’ll name a few here:

First and foremost, to my co-host Craig - three years ago, while driving through the winding roads in Oakland, NJ on those “guys night outs / bullshit sessions”, the light bulb went off and we thought “why can’t we just record this shit as a podcast and have people listen too it?” The Clutch and Wiggle Experience was born that night – I highly doubt that name would have passed then, but it stuck so we’re both fucked lol

Kris, Wayne and Steve ( and to Rhail, wherever the hell you are buddy) – When we started out, Kris recommended “Hack Radio” are the folks I should talk too and you would get us “in the door”. Wayne and Steve listened, liked what they heard and wanted to get us on the air. Sorry it took so long to go live, but when you’re so frigg’n new at this, it takes time to build confidence to know think you know what you’re doing, to actually doing it, to actually showing that said confidence. Thank you. To Rhail – well, you were there to stir the shit of Clutch and Wiggle’s initial demise lol .. it was just vented frustration at the time that was essentially taken out of context, but thanks for listening !!

EdgeFM (Sal and Mike), Geekerdome (Marie and Royce from HippoJuice), Gashouse Radio and Bernie at 92x (Everything that rocks!) .. Thank you all for “believing” in us and letting The Clutch and Wiggle Experience (I’d love to know you’re first opinions of what you thought when hearing the name of our show..) become apart of your on-air families and “syndication”. Without any of your help, we’d still be doing some sort of podcast and no one really listening and we would have probably given up by now.

Last, but not least, thank you to the ton’s of fans who have stuck by us week after week, show after show. Your patience, your jokes, your attention to detail when calling us out on things, has made this show more popular and fun to do. Everyone above pushed us forward to where we are, you the fans will be pushing us beyond our means to continue to put out that “unique” style of humor many have come to understand first, laugh later at. I thought it took a lot to put together a show, but a create of habit that I am, put a “skeleton” show prep together, fill in the hole’s as the week wears on and let the magic happen on show night has shaped our show, all with your help.

That’s all it really takes, throw in a little stubborn / don’t give up attitude, a little help from your friends and new fans along the way and you have yourself a decent internet radio talk show on your hands. Thank you for molding. Thank you for helping. Thank you for marketing. Thank you for being the great fans of our show that you are.

Now let’s all hope it takes less than three years to reach 200 shows!

* purchased our mac
* 1 week later we recorded our first podcast
* shows 1-9 were available via podomatic and not syndicated
* spoke with my friend Kris and she got me in touch with Wayne, Steve and Rhail at a web site called Hack Radio
* Hack Radio had turned into LoseTheRadio and was broadcasting via PalTalk
* Steve had replayed a few shows after #10 via a "replay" until we went live
* i believe our first live show ended up being us talking about other shows on LoseTheRadio being "posters" on the wall and the clinking of shot glasses
We partnered with another Live365 site that broadcasted other talk shows at night, until a night where there was no longer a connection and the site was "down for maintenance" .. later to find out the owner didn't pay the bill and lied .. so we lost out on a simulcaster
* we started broadcasting via LiveStream .. quickly gave that up when ad's started to appear every 15 minutes
* Took a few "Breaks" for school stuff, hockey, death's in family ..
* jumped on UStream and became apart of the EdgeFM family .. growing from like 5 shows all the way up to 15+ (depending on the day)
* Became affiliated with Gashouse Radio, who replays our shows Friday mornings during drive time 7a-9a
* Became affiliated with 92x to be their morning show Mondays and Fridays 9a-11a .. paved the way for shows like Lust n Love Radio and HippoJuice to come on board to fill out an ever growing "talk radio" genre they are attempting to build
*... we finally reached a milestone of 100 shows, gaining awesome followers (name a few in the room), losing other's who are now currently missing out (fuck em) and to those downloading our shows daily, THANK YOU FOR MAKING CLUTCH AND WIGGLE WHAT IT IS TODAY

I’ll be the first to tell you, I don’t read many books. This series, Game of Thrones, is based off the “best-selling” series called “A Song of Ice and Fire” by author George R.R. Martin. I’ve seen the thickness of the book, and I think I’ll pass. This blog post is about the show through HBO. A lot can be said about the “medieval” period and how essentially it was “eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth” type brutality. There are seven lands that are headed by a single “king”. So far this season tends to lie around the fact that the throne was stolen and a fight between “families” to get it back. This is where it gets good. the plotting, the scheming, the fighting. The acting, for it being a “medieval” period seems spot on, considering all the different types of period pieces that are out there.

There are some slow build ups, shit load of nudity (some great, some, well – coming from a man, not so good..you can guess why). The actors, script, and overall flow between characters, families.. the Lannister’s ( a Lannister always keeps his promise), Stark’s, Baratheon’s and Targaryen’s. Between fighting families for the crown, the “Wall” and others, the series itself is DEFINITLY a keeper and a great watch every Sunday. From someone who isn’t really “into” this type of time piece (outside of going to Medieval Times once or twice), I’ve been sucked in, it’s just taking me a bit of time trying to sort out who belongs to what family and how they’re all related – but that comes in time right?

I’m trying to keep this piece somewhat vague, as to not provide spoilers to anyone reading, but hope it can bring one or many of you an option to watch an episode or two in hopes you get hooked like I did .. at least, I hope. Savy?

So who would have thought that I would be doing TWO internet radio talk show’s ! It is true, I’ve now been successful at being able to do two live shows, the first being The Clutch and Wiggle Experience (Thursday night’s 8-10pmEST through www.edgefm.net ) and now The Cheap Heat Show (Monday nights 11p-midnight EST through www.edgefm.net)

My co-host Don Stugots (The Don Stugots Experience (of no relation to our show) Sunday night 10p-11p through his web site) and I now do a one hour “wrassl’n” talk show, everything about the past, present and future, as we take you out of the ring and into the nose bleed section of the “arena” to give our opinions about the state of professional wrestling. .. One of my favorite bands of all time, and one of my favorite songs from them go hand in hand. This one I don’t believe got much air play here in New Jersey rock rotation. I can recall getting the Purple album on cassette tape and rewinding to the beginning of the song time after time back in the day. In my opinion, it’s too bad that Mr. Weiland had to go down the personal route he did to curb what could have been an “all star” career. The first two albums from STP were awesome to great .. the ones that followed, not so much.

.. Yes, once there was this boy zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz .. oh, sorry.. see it did put me to sleep. I did, at one point, like this song back in the 90s. But once the newness and novelty wore off of this band and song, it can simply put you to sleep with it’s low music tone and horrible humming.. Need to put yourself or anyone else to sleep, turn this on, get your blanky and cup of warm milk, we’ll be seeing you in the morning!
